Rare Pic of John Cena and Brock Lesnar Backstage Discloses Their Real-LifeRelationship

John Cena and Brock Lesnar are perhaps two of the most decorated athletes to have graced the squared circle. In a little over two decades, the duo has locked horns over half a dozen times inside the WWE ring. However, their bond extends beyond their in-ring encounters.

For the unversed, both Cena and Lesnar are part of the legendary OVW 4 or Ohio Valley Wrestling 4. The OVW would train wrestlers who then graduated to the WWE and would receive the push as envisioned by billionaire Vince McMahon. Both Cena and Lesnar are graduates from 2002. But not just the two, the batch produced two more future Hall of Famers- Randy Orton and Dave Bautista, erstwhile Batista in the WWE.

After being promoted to the main roster, Cena and Lesnar have faced each other seven times, with the former UFC champion winning five of those encounters. Contrary to reports of tension between the two, an old picture showed the superstars chilling backstage.

John Cena was always nervous facing “big”, “mean” Brock Lesnar

John Cena is not just touted as the WWE franchise star, he’s a bona fide needle mover. But it took the 45-year-old wrestler-turned-Hollywood star a considerable amount of time to get the warmth and affection of the WWE Universe. Lesnar, however, was an instant hit. If you think he’s a freak now, you should have seen a young Brock Lesnar going about his business. The man, according to Cena, “is in a class by himself”.

Cena and Lesnar had their last encounter in a triple threat match featuring Money In The Bank winner Seth Rollins at the Royal Rumble in 2015. Brock unleashed the German Suplex on both of his opponents, before picking up the win by pinning Rollins after decimating him with his an F5.

With such a storied rivalry between the two, it was indeed surprising to see Cena sitting beside Lesnar backstage during WrestleMania 31. The Cenation Leader faced Rusev, while Lesnar defended his title against Roman Reigns that year at the mega-event.

The pair of legendary wrestlers share a storied history throughout their wrestling careers.

Cena and Lesnar over the years

As said above, Cena and Lesnar had their first fight in 2002 on September 19 on SmackDown. Lesnar picked up the victory using the F5.

The following year, the 16x world champion met The Beast Incarnate twice. Lesnar won both. The second of those wins came at WWE Backlash.

It wasn’t until 2012 that the duo locked horns again. At Extreme Rules, Cena had the last laugh, slamming Lesnar on the steel steps with the Attitude Adjustment. This is so far John Cena’s only victory over his OVW colleague.

Cena was set to win again, but Seth Rollins’ intervention prevented that. The match took place at Night of the Champions in 2014. Rollins used his Money In The Bank briefcase to attack Cena as he was about to claim the victory. The same year, at SummerSlam, Lesnar avenged his loss and won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The last encounter was at the aforementioned Royal Rumble in 2015.

The famous duo has been booked for the upcoming WrestleMania, but won’t be facing each other. While Lesnar will be challenged by 7 feet 3-inch giant Omos, Cena will take on current United States Champion Austin Theory. What do you make of the historic picture that resurfaced on the internet?
