Netflix Picks Up One in a Billion Basketball Documentary About NBAs First Player From

Netflix has acquired exclusive streaming rights to “One in a Billion,” a feature-length documentary about basketball player Satnam Singh Bhamara — chronicling his journey to become the first Indian-born basketball player drafted into the NBA.

The film will debut on Netflix worldwide Dec. 6. “One in a Billion” features NBA commissioner Adam Silver, Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire Mark Cuban, Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadivé, and Troy Justice, the NBA’s senior director of international basketball operations.

The movie follows the 7-foot-2 Singh from his home of Ballo Ke, a farming village in rural India, and builds up to a climactic night in New York City as he attempts to make history in the 2015 NBA draft. He was selected by the Dallas Mavericks as the team’s 52nd overall pick, and currently plays as a center for the Texas Legends of the NBA Development League.

Roman Gackowski directed the film, and OBB Pictures president and CEO Michael D. Ratner produced alongside Gackowski. OBB and Ratner are repped by UTA and 3 Arts Entertainment. The film is a production of OBB in partnership with Media Weaver and RGTV.

OBB Pictures, based in Beverly Hills, continues to add to its slate of recent releases that include scripted comedy series “The 5th Quarter” for Verizon’s Go90; Viceland and ESPN’s “The Clubhouse” featuring Malcolm Jenkins; and ESPN’s “30 for 30 Shorts” film “Gonzo @ the Derby” that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Earlier this year, OBB also inked partnerships with Mandalay Sports Media and Authentic Brands Group, which owns entertainment brands including Marilyn Monroe, Muhammad Ali, Elvis Presley and Shaquille O’Neal.
