Wydell Curry Sr. has solidified his status as NBA royalty. Along with having a stellar shooting record himself, during his professional career, he is also the father of Stephen Curry and Seth Curry. Like Dell, they are considered among the best sharpshooters in the league. Particularly Steph, who is a two-time MVP, and is widely regarded as the greatest shooter of all time.

Despite this fame, Dell has always maintained a very private and peaceful life. However, his long-standing marriage with Sonya Curry ended, resulting in a fair bit of media turbulence around them. Following the divorce, the former Hornets star has now found love again. He recently shared details of his newfound flame.

Dell Curry opens up about his new love life

In a recent appearance on the Sports Legends of the Carolinas podcast, Dell Curry spoke rather candidly. He also opened up about his marriage with Niki Smith. The former sharpshooter disclosed that some of their mutual friends introduced him to her, and they only met in person after a month of phone calls.

“I’d met her a couple of times. We talked on the phone for a month before I laid eyes on her. I’m like: “Oh, I like this girl, man. What’s going on here?,” said Curry. He further added, “I wasn’t going to get married again. But life is great right now. It couldn’t be better”. Dell seems to be content with his new life, especially after the testy divorcee he went through.

Interestingly, Dell brought this same person to the 2022 NBA Finals, where he witnessed his son Steph win his fourth NBA Championship. This update also coincides with the fact that Dell and his ex-wife, Sonya Curry, concluded their marriage just 23 months ago.

Sonya and Dell had a tumultuous divorce after 33 years of marriage

In 2021, Dell Curry and Sonya Curry announced their divorce after 33 years of marriage. They married in 1988 while Dell played for the Charlotte Hornets and had three children during their marriage: two sons, Stephen Curry and Seth Curry, and a daughter, Sydel Curry. Unfortunately, their three-decade-long marriage ended on a sour note due to allegations of infidelity on both sides.

Sonya filed for divorce first, citing “marital misconduct” and suggesting Dell had multiple affairs outside of their marriage. Even Dell suggested that Sonya was unfaithful during his NBA, even going to live with another man. However, despite the drama, both of them now seemed to have moved on.
