Moshimo Sushi in Brighton Review - Living & Travel

Restaurant: Moshimo (formerly Moshi Moshi) Where? Bartholomew Square, Brighton Sushi Vs... Junior Features Editor, Hannah Lyons Powell

What? Of course you can get plenty of good seafood in Brighton but finding really excellent sushi anywhere can be a much taller order. Enter Brighton's sushi stalwart, Moshimo, which offers seriously superb traditional Japanese fare in the city centre. Buzzing with atmosphere from the moment we walked in, despite the high quality of the place, it's completely unpretentious making it the ideal stop for those wanting good food and a good drink. What's the crowd? A mix of couples, locals and families can all be found either sitting at the table or along the conveyor belt at the bar. We ate... A lot. The sushi at Moshimo is freshly prepared on site, while the hot plates from the menu are made to order. We sampled everything from the salmon and yellow fin tuna sashimi to the classic nigiri from the conveyor belt, as well a really excellent, perfectly cooked Beef Teriyaki, served on a bed of haricot verts and sweet potato fries (< the very idea of this is so imprinted on our brains, we're practically salivating as we write this.) We drank... The cocktails are well worth sampling here; the Blushing Pulm went down especially well - a blend of plum wine, pineapple and cranberry juice, it tastes very much like a Shirley Temple thanks to the sweetening dash of Grenadine. The Gin-based how did you guess? Gin-zilla was also among the favourites on our table; a zesty cocktail that went down far too easily (which we always take as a very good sign). For the sushi purists amongst you, there's a super selection of sakes and traditional Japanese beers, too. Don't forget to ask for... The tempura ice-cream for dessert. A speciality of the house; anyone who loves Baked Alaska will love this sweet treat. The perfect plus 1, is... Moshimo is really buzzy and with such good food in the heart of the city, we'd highly recommend going with a bunch of friends before hitting the town. -140 verdict: If you're in Brighton, you'd be (sorry to be frank) a fool to miss out a quick trip to @moshimoshi!
