The fashion desk meets the nation's TV darling, Holly Willoughby - cue girly stories about being a size 12, bad 80s clothing and those magic undies from her Very.co.uk range. Yes, we've got a new girl crush.

What's the best piece of fashion advice your mum ever gave you?

Wear clothes that fit. It's the most important thing. Don't just see something you like and automatically pick up a size 12 because that's what you think you are. Try on the sizes bigger and smaller than what you expect to be, and buy what genuinely fits and feels most comfortable.

What did you and your friends like to wear when you were growing up?

We went through a real grunge phase, during that whole Nirvana era, so we were in our cherry red Doc Martens with black skirts, leather-look T-shirts, and very unwashed hair. It was not a good look, if I'm honest!

How has your style changed since you've become famous?

I don't think it's a case of becoming more famous, more my style changing as I've got older. I know what works for my body now. As I've grown up, I definitely have become less experimental; I know what shapes work for me and what doesn't. I don't tend to follow trends anymore; I like to do my own thing with a nod to what's trendy at that time.

How would you describe your style?

Sophisticated, comfortable and sexy - in a comfortable way, not an overtly sexy way.

What is your favourite shop in your home town?

Depends what I'm shopping for really. I do like to find some good old vintage treats, even if they're just from a charity shop, as you can always find some great bits and pieces. Also, that way, you can guarantee you're wearing something that no one else has got on! When I'm looking for general stuff, I do tend to shop online as it's quick and easy when I've not got a lot of time.

What's the cringiest outfit in your family photo album?

Being a child growing up in the 80s, my mum experimented with dressing me in quite a lot of day-glo. I lived through the shell suit era; although I didn't have a shell suit, I did have a pair of shell shorts which I think is probably about a million times worse.

Who is your style icon, and why?

Marilyn Monroe. She always has been. I think she epitomises what a woman should be. She knew how to dress her curves, she embraced her womanly figure and seemed utterly comfortable in her own skin.

What is the one item in your wardrobe you could not imagine life without?

The hold-in pants from my Very range! Without them my entire wardrobe would look completely different, so they are absolutely key.

What do you think sets London girls apart from the rest of the world, style-wise?

I think London as a city is so diverse and multicultural, anything goes really. The fashion here reflects that - there are so many different styles of dressing throughout the city. In London, you can be very experimental with fashion; it's totally accepted, even if you stand out.

What is the red carpet outfit that you've felt the most amazing in?

I felt pretty good at this years NTAs. I was pregnant at the time and I had this really beautiful Suzanne Neville dress that she'd made with a corset that fitted over my bump. It was the most amazing piece of engineering craftwork I've ever seen. It was a really lovely dress.

When you're getting ready for a night out, what song really gets you in the mood?

I'm a bit of a Fleetwood Mac girl. I also think you can't beat a bit of old school Girls Aloud to get in the mood for going out.

Is there a trend or an item of clothing that you love, but you just can't wear?

I've never been able to wear a harem pant. I think when you're curvy and have a bottom, harem pants are not your friend! I'm quite glad they've gone back out of fashion now.

And finally... What are you most looking forward to in 2012?

Starting off the New Year with the new season of Dancing On Ice - it's always so much fun. And a new year of This Morning. I have such a brilliant time with Phil - it's just the best job.
