Are Elsa From 'Frozen' and Rapunzel From 'Tangled' Twins?

Elsa and Anna are an iconic and beloved Disney sister duo. However, there might be another sister linked to Elsa and her magical powers. Here’s what fans had to say about the Queen of Arandelle and her apparent connection to Rapunzel, from the Disney movie, Tangled.

Rapunzel attends Elsa’s coronation with Flynn Rider in ‘Frozen’

Disney and Pixar love their “easter eggs.” For Disney’s 2013 release, Frozen, they were sure to include a few references to other animated movies including the 2010 award-winning film, Tangled.

During the song, “For the First Time In Forever,” Anna enjoys her first few moments outside of the castle gates. This is, of course, in celebration of Elsa’s coronation as the Queen of Arandelle. In fact, a princess from a neighboring kingdom, Rapunzel, went to the coronation along with her partner, Flynn Rider.

Are Rapunzel and Elsa related?

One Disney fan theory suggests that when Elsa and Anna’s parents leave during the first movie, they were on their way to Rapunzel’s wedding to Flynn Rider. Elsa and Rapunzel are both 21 at the time of Elsa’s coronation, which would’ve taken place a few years after her parents’ death.

Elsa and Rapunzel are both left-handed, as is Rapunzel’s mother. Of course, both of these characters have magical powers, with Rapunzel having the powers of the “sun” and Elsa having the power of ice. Their hair color is also somewhat linked to their powers.

Could that mean that Rapunzel and Elsa are actually twins? It’s possible, but not likely. Frozen 2 disproves a number of these fan theories, even linking Anna and Elsa closer than before.

When Elsa finds out she’s the “Fifth Spirit,” she tells Anna that they’re a bridge with two sides, because their mother had two daughters. Iduna and Agnarr weren’t on their way to Rapunzel’s wedding — they were trying to learn more about Elsa’s magic.

‘Frozen 2’ debunks a few fan theories regarding Anna and Elsa

Multiple theories connect The Little Mermaid and Ariel to the Queen of Princess of Arandelle. In fact, Ariel’s kingdom happens to be on the sea’s bed in Denmark, which means Anna and Elsa’s parents totally could’ve passed over on their way to Ahtohallan.

There was also the theory that after the shipwreck, Anna and Elsa’s parents washed onto an island and became Tarzan’s parents, only to die at the claws of Sabor, the leopard. That was also disproven by Frozen 2, when the sisters learn that their parents traveled to the North Sea, dying on the ship in the process.

Both Frozen movies are available for binge-watching on Disney’s streaming platform. There’s also television specials available that feature Olaf, Anna, Kristoff, Sven, and all of their friends. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
